FAQ
Most frequent questions and answers
What parts should be replaced at what intervals?
Your owner’s manual provides all necessary information regarding what parts to replace and when to do it. Read it thoroughly and note any exceptions or severe service notations. Warranties are there to protect the consumer, but you must follow the requirements. If you have questions about warranties, please contact us.
Should I consider using synthetic motor oil?
The primary purposes of synthetic oils are to reduce engine wear during cold start-up and drive-away, and to reduce oil degradation.
Advantage: change conventional motor oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. “If you’re using full synthetic oil, we recommend going about 7,500 between changes,”
When do I need to replace my belts and hoses?
If you can see cracks in your belts, it is time to have them replaced. We recommend replacing your belts and hoses at least every three to four years. If your hoses look swollen or soft that could be an indicator that they need to be replaced. However, hoses can deteriorate on the inside and if this happens there is no visual evidence that the hose needs to be changed.
How often should I consider maintenance checkup?
This depends on the type of spark plugs that are in your car. Older cars (15-20 years old) are more likely to have standard plugs and they last 12,000-15,000 miles, newer models up to the year 2000 are platinum tipped and will last 30,000 miles. Some 2000 and newer have iridium tipped plugs and will go 90,000 to 100,000 miles.
Customer’s Reviews
I took my car to A Good Mechanic this week because it was shaking a little bit when driving on the freeway.
Jeff did a thorough inspection, and quickly pinpointed the cause. The work we needed done (a wheel balance) isn’t something that they do at A Good mechanic, but Jeff still helped me get the repairs done with another shop. He communicated clearly with me at each step, and I feel confident that he will take care of my car well throughout any and all future repairs.

I’m glad someone told me about Jeff Burbatt owner of A Good Mechanic. From the start, I could tell Jeff was honest and if there was some way he could fix my car without having me spend tons of money he did it for me! He performed the work quickly and correctly and gave me awesome prices!
Furthermore, I can’t count on one hand how many times he and his wife gave me a ride home and picked me back up when I dropped my car off because I had no other way to get home or back to his shop!

Jeff (shop owner) is the best game in town. He is a master technician with dealership level skills and non-dealership level pricing and honesty. I looked very hard to find a shop like A Good Mechanic that I can trust. You won’t be disappointed.
